INSPECTION CRITERIA

Hooks should be examined to see if they are cracked or distorted beyond allowable tolerances. Accurate measurement should be taken for throat opening & tram the hook for accurate measurement in the future. In doing so, movement in the hook can be caught before an accident occurs. Safety latch should be in working order. Heavy painting on the hook and cheek plates will hide small cracks.

Accurate measurement of wire rope is a B30.5 requirement. Special care should be taken when checking the wire rope on the equalizer sheave that it does not move and that it picks every load without the cable moving.

Load blocks and whip ball line should be sufficient weight to overhaul the line from the highest hook position for all links of the boom. All hook and ball assemblies and load blocks shall be labeled with their rated capacity and weight.

Outrigger beams should be marked to indicate when they are fully extended or mid-extended with warning decals. The outrigger housing and beams should be checked for cracks and distortion.

All hydraulic hoses, fittings, swivels and tubing should be checked for fluid le akage. Hoses should be checked for evidence of any rubbing and wear areas.

Anti-skid should be on all principle walkways.

Manufacturer's operating and maintenance manuals shall be with the machine. A durable load rating chart for the specific model and serial number of the crane shall be accessible to the operator at his or her operating or work station. All limitations, warnings, specifications and safety data should be displayed.
